Ok! Magazine is dramatically reporting that there’s trouble in paradise for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, going as far as saying that the couple could be “heading for a split.”
The reason? Apparently, Jen was pretty upset after her husband referred to their marriage as “work” in his Academy Awards acceptance speech; “I want to thank you [Jennifer] for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It’s good. It is work, but there’s no one I’d rather work with,” Ben said to his wife at the 2013 Oscars, as she looked on from the audience with a huge smile on her face. According to a source that spoke to Ok! Ben chose the wrong words to express his feelings about his marriage to Jen; “It was supposed to be this beautiful moment and he’s letting everyone in on their dirty laundry,” the insider explained.
Ben’s speech wasn’t the only thing irking Jen that night, however. The source also claims that the actress was annoyed that Ben decided to keep his beard for the ceremony, as she thinks he looks better without it.
So what’s up with all the drama? The insider claims that it has a lot to do with Ben’s hectic work schedule, and Jennifer feeling like she’s left on her own to care for their three kids. In fact, things are so tense between the couple, that at the BAFTAS they couldn’t even hide it; “They were hardly talking to each other and when they did, it was through clenched teeth. Finally it boiled over. They went out into the hall and it looked like the argument was really escalating.”
While it’s possible that Ben’s awards season schedule made things a bit more, I don’t know, complicated for the couple, as another more logical sounding source puts it to the magazine, the Afflecks are just like any couple, trying to get through the day to day stuff … together; “Jen and Ben love each other very much, but like any marriage, they have their moments. I wouldn’t go so far as to say they’re over because they’re not. They’re working hard at their marriage.”
